For years the building used to house the fire trucks and equipment of the Mt. Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Company in Hickory, Pennsylvania was inadequate at best. The fire company serves a 35.6 square mile area and aids neighboring fire companies as needed, so a building large enough to suit their needs would be essential. After consulting with Olympia Steel Buildings they realized that rather than just remodeling and "making-do" with an update to their old existing facility, the smart decision would be to go with an Olympia pre-engineered steel building that would easily accommodate their needs. And because pre-engineered metal buildings go up fast with no surprises at the job site, are fire-resistant and virtually maintenance free with a 50-year warranty on the frames, they would save the Township time and money in the long run.
After much successful fundraising, the fire company accumulated the necessary capital and were able to begin designing, with the help of Olympia Steel, a pre-engineered steel building that would include five bays for trucks and equipment, a storage area and space for offices. Olympia steel buildings helped the firemen to design a metal building that not only would be large enough to accommodate all of their requirements but would be far superior and a great deal less costly to purchase and erect than a standard construction building of wood or concrete block.
The new fire station is spacious, open and totally functional. Fully insulated, this steel building has a clear span design providing room for rescue and firefighting vehicles and equipment for the entire squad with room to spare.
The residents of Hickory are proud of their new pre-engineered steel building and are happy to show it to visitors from other communities, especially during their annual “Apple Festival” that is held every year in October.

"Serious performance through superior design” is promised by the new Zeus-Shield™ Standing Seam Roof System introduced by Olympia Steel Buildings for their pre-engineered steel buildings and metal building systems. Zeus-Shield represents a new age of standing seam metal roofing with a number of advanced features making the Zeus-Shield metal roofing system the best in its class.
Recent changes in wind uplift resistance requirements and testing methods have called for a new approach to roof performance. While other steel building manufacturers continue to react to these changes with makeshift solutions, Zeus-Shield has invested in a totally new patented method and technology specifically designed to meet and exceed these new requirements. The breakthrough technology behind the Zeus-Shield seaming system makes the Zeus-Shield metal roof the best in its class for performance, reliability and cost efficiency.
The patented technology offers considerable benefits to the roof designer, the roof installer, the contractor and the steel building owner. All four benefit from Zeus-Shield’s dependability, superior performance and cost efficiency,” says Olympia Steel Buildings company president, Arnold Davis.
The Zeus-Shield system sets itself apart from other standing seam metal roofs with steel panels that are designed to last, innovative clips that add stability while still allowing for thermal expansion and contraction and a patented seaming system designed to handle the most stringent uplift requirements. Their proven, patented seam provides superior wind and weather protection under all roof loading conditions, ensuring that the installed roof will perform as designed and at a minimum cost.
Standard industry wind tunnel tests divide wind loading on a roof into three zones of uplift. Unlike other roof systems, the Zeus-Shield patented standing seam roof system accommodates all three zones simply and efficiently by selecting one of three patented seaming methods designed specifically to meet the uplift load for that zone. Unlike other standing seam roof systems, with Zeus-Shield, no changing purlin spacing, no changing panel thickness and no installation of external clips over the seam are required, resulting in lower overall costs for both materials and installation man-hours.
“In almost every case, your entire roofing system is accomplished with one consistent purlin spacing, one panel size, and one clip throughout, making it easy, reliable and cost-efficient,” says Davis. “You are assured of superior performance and on-schedule completion with Zeus-Shield technology because the Zeus-Shield roof system eliminates the need to run an electric seaming machine as the roof is installed. No more delays in putting on the roof waiting for the seamer to get to the job, because the seaming can be done at any time after the roof panels have been laid. Your bottom-line result is dependable roof performance.”
